Van Goghs' inspiration

One of the most famous paintings by Vincent van Gogh not on the wall, but on your own Fred shirt! A real eye-catcher with a classic collar, long sleeves, and a button closure.

This Fred shirt is inspired by the famous Van Gogh’s painting ‘’Sunflowers’’. This is a painting that is one of the most famous works by Vincent van Gogh. He made this painting in Arles, in the south of France, in 1888 and 1889. Sunflowers had a special significance for Van Gogh. He made seven versions of sunflowers in a vase. The color yellow was for him an emblem of happiness. In Dutch literature, the sunflower was a symbol of devotion and loyalty. Sunflowers also remind us of the cycle of life and death.

Vincent van Gogh was born a minister’s son in the Netherlands. He decided to be a painter when he was the age of 27. Van Gogh was largely self-taught and only received formal artistic training for about four months just a few years before his death. He was only 37 years old when he died. Vincent only sold one painting in his whole life. Did you know he painted almost 900 paintings in ten years?

As a tribute to one of the dutch legends we have added this print to our Fred's classic collection
